Message from the President

I would like to thank everybody for making this transitional year exciting
and fun. The GNYBA Board (new and old members) has been supportive,
helpful and creative. Sadly, Ryan Connors will be leaving the Board this
year. He has always been so calm in the middle of a crisis and has an
incredible institutional memory. We will all miss him! Thank you also to
Barbara McLendon. She has been producing the Post Mortem for the last
several years, and unfortunately this is her last issue.
Our May Regional was a great success (attendance and income were
up about 20%). We are hoping that you will all join us for the upcoming
December Regional (December 26-30) at The New York Hilton. We will be
having daily sessions of the Gold Rush pairs, a chance for those players
under 750 points to win precious gold . We have also added Bracketed
Round Robin Swiss Teams to our daily schedule.
Our premiere events will be the Jim Becker Stratified A/X Pairs on Friday
and the two-day Truscott Open B-A-M on Monday and Tuesday.
Our February events begin on the 6th with the Pro Am which matches up
Life Masters or Pros with those players who have under 100 points. It will
be held at Honors. Do sign up early by sending in the flyer on page 8.
There will be two days of silver points for 199ers on Saturday, February 7,
and Sunday, February 8, also at Honors. The Betty Kaplan, a team event ,
will be held Saturday, February 7, at the Cavendish.
Also in February, the Grand National Teams begin. GNT Open and Flight
B will be on Sunday, February 8, at ACES Bridge Club. Flights A and C will
be on February 22 at ACES.
We encourage everyone to take part in the Double Knock-outs. They are
so much fun. I really enjoyed playing in them. Also, these are where the
points are with IMP scoring. There are three categories–the Harter Cup for
non-Life Masters with less than 500 points, the Sol Seidman for those with
less than 3,000 points and the Von Zedtwitz for over 3,000 points.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the December Regional.

Peggy Ellis, President, GNYBA
